Hacks For A Better Career
Throughout one's career there will inevitably come the time to either find a new career path or ask the current place of employment for a raise. With the current state of the economy that can be an extremely daunting task. The key to having a successful outcome in these scenarios comes down to three things: confidence, respect & timing. Below are some key tips that can be applied to a specific scenario or can be implemented as principles that guide how one conducts themselves in the workplace
Learn when to disagree
The boss cannot be right 100% of the time, there are key moments where a respectful disagreement is necessary. Elite units such as the Israeli Defense Force's Unit 8200, sometimes referred to as a "startup factory" due to the fact that many former members of the unit went on to found billion-dollar companies, encourages their members to challenge their leadership. Any member of this unit regardless of hierarchy have the ability to run their complaints and concerns all the way to the top of the chain of command if needed.
Next time the leadership tries to do something that is detrimental to the business, respectfully disagree. If that respect is met with hostility see below.
Learn to be (respectfully) unapologetic
Balancing confidence & respect is about knowing when its the right time to keep quiet and when it's the right time to stand your ground. This can be especially difficult when dealing with a boss who acts more like a dictator instead of a leader. As stated above leaders are not always correct, sometimes they are positively incorrect but are too stubborn (or uninformed/unintelligent) to see that the decision they are making or the action they are taking will hurt the organization. It is sometimes needed to push back against a leadership that insists on doing things their way regardless of how it affects others and the organization.
These types of "leaders" are usually incompetent, unhinged & quick to overreact when their authority is challenged even if the entire organization is the one challenging them. In our experience the best way to deal with this sort of incompetence is to be sure in your disagreement. Utilize facts, logic and if necessary, customer testimonies. If all else fails PSYOPS are extremely effective against these types of individuals.
Rules For Effective & Efficient Productivity
There is a time to work and a time to relax
A key to being effective with the pursuit of productivity is setting clear boundaries between work & relaxation. Without setting rules to govern the separation between the two there is a risk that they overlap leading to both items being inefficient & counteracting instead of complimenting each other.
Prioritize work so there is Clarity
Some items of work are more important than others. It would be foolish to work on a project that is due next year instead of the task that is due today.
Focus is key
The ability to control your focus will be the one of the most vital skills to possess in the workforce going forward. In the age of ever decreasing attention spans being able to sit for 2-3+ hours on a single project will make you invaluable to your organization.
Make a routine
Get in the habit of making routines. These routines can be for anything deemed important to the success of the individual or the organization. Examples include:
A routine for Deep Work - Set aside a specific block of time each day to focus on the vital items on your to-do list.
A Morning/Evening Routine - Morning & evening routines can overlap in their objectives. Some people plan their day in the morning others do it the night before. The idea is to have a clear idea of what happened the day before & what is going to take place the next day.
Health over everything
Prioritize your health over anything, you can’t focus on your important work if you have no energy.
