There has been a significant lack of activity from this publication over the last year. That lack of activity was largely unintentional as I started a new job and was in the process of relocating, which took up a lot of my time. This past year has felt like a repeated set of battles in unfamiliar territory with little to no support. However, those trials and tribulations have brought insight and understanding. I was never really sure about the direction of this publication as its goal was set fairly high. Going forward there are going to be some changes to how things are structured here at JANN. The chief change is that I am going to be less formulaic in my approach. As much as I enjoyed the briefing format, I felt limited in terms of what I could publish. My objective going forward is to experiment with different styles and take JANN back to it’s roots of being a “news” publication. I’m thinking of a newspaper style with different sections that would be posted to when the time is appropriate. The briefing format may stay as one of these sections or may be merged into something else.
Most importantly, however, I need to satisfy myself. In order to do that the first series of posts back will be a little bit self indulging. I am going to spend (perhaps too much) time detailing some of the latest news surrounding a fleet of Boeing 757s that I have dubbed “Special Activities Variants” or SAVs. These few aircraft can almost be credited with spawning the idea for JANN.
Since I started JANN, I have always wanted to cover these planes in slightly more detail than I do on my Twitter. Unfortunately there was always an element of fear present. I didn't think that covering "secret" planes would get me the foothold that I thought JANN needed. I was also afraid of looking like Charlie when he tries to figure out who Pepe Silvia is:
Because of that fear, I steered JANN in a more 'palatable' direction, and I believe it was the right choice at the time. However, events that unfolded during the hiatus have demonstrated that people have an appetite for the mysterious, especially the kind that unassumingly whispers, 'Nothing to see here, move along.'
Having realized this, I believe the time has come to lift the veil on some of these mysteries. And with that, it's time to introduce you to the 'Gatekeepers.'
Stay tuned for what's coming next as we delve deeper into the intriguing world of aviation mysteries. Your continued support and readership are greatly appreciated, and I look forward to taking this journey together.
Regards,
JANN
